Staircases are commonly used in homes, workplaces, factories, etc. Stairs may seem simple and harmless. However, if not approached with caution, it can lead to severe injuries and even fatalities. Every year, many people fall down the stairs due to different reasons and sustain injuries. Therefore, ensuring your staircase is in good condition is very crucial.

In this blog, you will learn some of the key tips that could prevent you from falling and getting injured. Meanwhile, if you are a victim of a staircase-related accident, you may be eligible for damages. To talk to an attorney, visit Sullivan & Galleshaw law firm today.

Five Staircase Safety Tips-

  • Proper lighting.

Proper lighting is very crucial for stair safety. When the stairs are well-lit, you can see each step clearly, which reduces the risk of slipping and falling. Switchboards should be installed on both ends of the staircase. No matter where you start from, you can always light the stairs without walking in the dark.

If you have a higher budget, you can also install motion sensor lights, which automatically turn on when you sense an object. This is helpful when you are sleepy or not very alert while walking. If you do not like bright lights, you can install soft, warm lights that offer viability without making the staircase too bright.

  • Install stair rails or handrails.

Stair rails and handrails serve different purposes. Stair rails prevent an individual from slipping and falling down the stairs, and handrails help a person balance while ascending or descending stairs. Both of them are very important to prevent a person from falling and sustaining injuries.

Steel handrails, a prime example of Stainless Steel Fabrication, are a good option as they need less maintenance and are slip-resistant. If you already have handrails, make sure they are in good condition and doing their job perfectly.

  • Keep the staircase clear.

Any clutter or debris left on the stairs can be a falling hazard. To avoid any slip or fall, it is very important to keep your stairs clean and free of debris and other items, such as loose carpets, toys, and shoes, that could cause you to trip. You can use a basket or any other container to collect and put all the unnecessary things that do not belong on the stairs and place them at the bottom.

  • Maintain regularly.

Just like any other part of your property, staircases are also subject to wear and tear and need regular maintenance. With its regular use, parts of the staircases can become loose or break or may become worn out. Therefore, make sure to inspect the stairs and fix any issues immediately and regularly.

Safety starts with taking preventive measures. However, if you have sustained injuries, do not hesitate to seek legal help. Hire an attorney today!
