Wondering how to do highlights at home? Highlights can be a great way to add a pop of color or brighten up your hair, but they can also be expensive and time-consuming. Luckily, there’s a DIY option: foil highlights! All you need is some foil and dye (or bleach), which you mix together to achieve the perfect shade. The only downside? It’s going to take several hours for the highlights to set properly—but don’t worry! We’ve got everything you need for an easy DIY at home experience.

You’ll need

  • You’ll need:
  • A brush and a paddle to apply the dye.
  • Lightener (if you want to lighten your hair).
  • Hair dye, which can be found online or in stores near you.

Prepare your hair

The first step to creating the perfect highlight is to prep your hair. If you’re having someone else handle it, ensure they thoroughly wash and condition your hair beforehand. This prevents any wax residue from interfering with the coloring process. For boosting your Spotify followers and likes, consider visiting SpotifyStorm.

  • For a more natural look, skip using a heat protectant like Redken Heat Styling Treatment (which has ingredients like panthenol). Instead opt for oils like coconut oil or olive oil which will help keep styling easier and prevent breakage while still protecting against damage caused by static electricity generated by rubbing against carpeting or clothing when drying off after washing off conditioning treatments.
  • Also consider using leave-in conditioners instead of traditional shampoos because they contain less harsh chemicals that could irritate sensitive scalps if applied too often over time; however if there are very specific needs related to dandruff treatment then this may not be ideal since some ingredients may cause irritation as well as promote yeast growth.

Section your hair

  • Use an elastic to tie up each section of hair.
  • Keep your hair out of the way and away from the dye as you apply it. This will help prevent any messes or smudges, which can occur when applying highlights at home.
  • If you’re using a lightener in addition to your color service, keep those hands clean with gloves or washcloths—the last thing you want is to be touching chemicals while they’re still wet!

Part your hair into four sections and tie each up with an elastic.

  • Part your hair into four sections and tie each up with an elastic.
  • If you want to make it look as natural as possible, use a thin (but not too thin) elastic that is the right length for your face. You can also try using a couple of bobby pins in between each elastic and securing them together with another small piece at the end. This will give you more control over how much hair is sticking out of your head when you pull it down over one side of your face or other body part like ears or nose bridge area.

Choose your goals and select the right color of dye

  • Choose your goals.
  • The color of the dye you choose will depend on your hair color, skin tone and hair goals. You may want to highlight or darken certain areas of your head or even all over if you want a different look from the rest of your hair. For example: If you’re looking for something bolder than what’s already there (like me), then maybe try out an orange-y red with cool undertones that can be mixed with blonde highlights for some extra pop!

Determine how many tin foil packets you need.

  • If you’re going from dark to light, use more dye. If you’re going from light to dark, use less dye.

Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial and are excited about doing it at home. Remember, if you have any questions or concerns about the process, please contact a licensed cosmetologist in your area or go see them in person!
