Gurpreet Singh Waraich was born on 19 June 1971, in Gurdaspur in Punjab, India. His father Gurnam Singh was a businessman while his mother Sukhwinder Kaur was a housewife.
Gurpreet did his schooling and completed his 12th class from a high school in Jalandhar, Punjab. He enrolled at Doaba College in 1991 and received 100% free admission after his seniors discovered his passion for acting. Gurpreet graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
