Queen Pen Career

Queen Pen started her music career by joining the R&B group Blackstreet in the mid-1990s. She continued to work with Dr. Dre recording songs for the group and didn’t get any traction until she was featured in the hit single “No Diggity” in 1996.

The song “No Diggity” was included in the second album “Another Level” of the group “Blackstreet”. This project was a commercial success coming in at number 3 on the Billboard 200 as well as selling over 4 million copies globally.

No Diggity was a catchy record, the vocals in the background, heavy-hitting drums, matched with strong R&B and hip-hop vocals worked perfectly. It was truly a magical record that caught the eye of a record producer Teddy Riley who offered Pen to sign a deal on his label “Lil’ Man”. In her music career, Queen Pen earned a net worth of 2 million US dollars.

Breakthrough

In 1997, Queen Pen released her debut album “My Melody” which debuted at number 78 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell over 3 million copies in the first year. Overall, this Riley-produced album had a lot of potential. It featured a number of hit tracks such as Man Behind the Music, All My Love, and Party Ain’t a Party.

Queen Pen earned mainstream popularity with her song “Girlfriend” ft Meshell Ndegeocello. That track garnered controversies, for one, it touched on le*bian issues. The song was controversial and created a lot of buzz for the young singer.

Further Projects

In the early 2000s, Queen Pen dropped her second studio album “Conversations with Queen“. The album wasn’t as successful as her debut project was. The only single that got released off “Conversations With Queen” is “Ghetto Divorce”. However, it failed to make the charts. In essence, Pen’s second album didn’t do well sales-wise because she took too long to release her second project.
