Justin Drew Tranter was born on June 16, 1980, in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, the United States. They grew up along with three older brothers. Initially, they attended the Lake Zurich public high school but after experiencing bullying at school, they moved to the Chicago Academy for the Arts.
Justin studied musical theatre at the Chicago Academy from 1994 to 1998 and then enrolled at Berklee College of Music. They graduated with a GPA of 3.9 and earned a degree in songwriting. While in college, they established the Musicians with a Mission scholarship to provide education funding for LGBT youth.
Career Beginnings
Justin started writing songs when they were 15 years old but have wanted to be a singer-songwriter since childhood. In 2002, Justin dropped their debut studio album “Scratched” followed by “Tear Me Together’ their second album which came out in 2004.
